Kathmandu. Singer and musician Jivan Bomjan has been honored with the prestigious ‘Yogita Moktan Talent Award – 2081’. The award was presented to Bamjan during a special ceremony held on Monday to mark the 14th memorial day of singer Yogita Moktan.
The Nepal Tamang Artists Association established this award in memory of singer Moktan. According to the association’s chairman, Bishal Kaltan, the award carries a cash prize of 20,000 Nepalese Rupees and is presented annually to a young, talented artist.
Honored on Monday, Bamjan is actively involved in singing, composing music, and writing lyrics. His songs, including “Khukuri Hain Kardako,” “Jyan Maichyang,” “Angiki Chhori,” “Hamro Ta Akhe,” “Sailung Mela,” and “Lhochhar Khaji,” have gained immense popularity among audiences. The association’s General Secretary, Khem Moktan, stated that the award was given to Bamjan in recognition of his contributions to promoting Selo music.
During the memorial and award ceremony, senior singer and musician Chandra Kumar Dong presented the award to Bamjan. The event was attended by veteran singer Indira Gole, senior singer Prem Lopchan, the late singer Moktan’s mother Nirukumari Gurung, and many other Tamang artists.
Former president and chief advisor of the association, Bishwo Dong, reflected on the late singer Moktan’s contributions to the Tamang and Nepali music industry. Other speakers at the event also paid tribute to her.
Yogita Moktan, who lent her voice to more than 500 songs, passed away untimely in Falgun 2067. Some of her most popular Selo songs include “Her Na Her,” “Kahile Ta Purwako,” “Damphu Bajau Tamba Dai,” and “Hoi Dolmo Hoi Palmo.” In addition to Selo music, Moktan also sang numerous revolutionary songs.
